An anchor left behind when the Navy vacated Ward Island in 1947, was dedicated to the freshmen class. They were responsible for cleaning, repainting, and guarding it against rivals. Eventually, the anchor disappeared from campus, but in February 2015, a replica anchor was dedicated to honor one of the University’s oldest traditions.
